Bush Maths

Yesterday we went for a walk in the bush and collected material to use for maths. Today we made a bridge by setting out the twigs we found from shortest to longest. We counted how many twigs we had used and then talked about what was 1 more and 1 less than any number to 20.

Buddies: Waimirirangi and Rebecca

My big buddy is Rebecca. She is a senior pupil at Frankley School and is someone I can go to if I need any help.

Floating and Sinking

Today, Wiamirirangi was interested in exploring at the floating and sinking tray. She helped her class peers collect some loose parts to see if they would float or sink. She spent some time testing each one.

Later, she went to a tray with a collection of loose parts. In the tray were some of the same objects that she had been testing at the floating and sinking tray. E.g. cd's straws, bottle tops and corks. Waimirirangi was very focused in the creating process when I asked what she was making.

"I am making something to see if it will float or sink", she said. "I think it will float because it has a cd."

Once it was finished, she raced outside to test her creation. Waimirirangi was so proud when her creation and prediction was right.

What great exploring and application of new learning Waimirirangi.
